Die Entscheidung, die Lieferungen in den Norden des Gazastreifens auszusetzen, wurde nicht leichtfertig getroffen. Wir sind uns bewusst, dass sich die Lage dort weiter verschlechtern wird und noch mehr Menschen zu Verhungern drohen.
Es gibt in der Welt viele Gründe für Hunger und häufig hängen sie eng mit einander zusammen. Aus Sicht von Ernährungsexperten sind dabei folgende sechs Ursachen zentral:ArmutWenn Menschen in Armut leben, können sie sich oft kein nahrhaftes Essen für ihre Familien leisten.
Der UN-Generalsekretär hat mich angerufen, um seine Solidarität und seine Unterstützung für die WFP-Familie auszudrücken. Ich danke ihm und vielen anderen aus aller Welt für ihre Anteilnahme.

"Die Auswirkungen dieses Konflikts erstrecken sich über drei Länder - Sudan, Südsudan und Tschad - und haben die größte Vertreibungskrise der Welt ausgelöst. Seit fast einem Jahr dauert der Krieg an, und es gibt keine Anzeichen dafür, dass die Zahl der Familien, die über die Grenzen fliehen, abnimmt.
Effizient Nothilfe leisten, Leben in einer Hungersnot retten, Zero Hunger bis 2030 erreichen – das ist nur durch koordinierte Partnerschaften möglich. Humanitäre Organisationen, Regierungen oder Unternehmen aus dem Privatsektor tragen ihre einzigartige Expertise und ihr umfangreiches Wissen bei.
Konflikte, Klimaschocks, die anhaltenden Auswirkungen von COVID-19 und steigende Lebenshaltungskosten führen dazu, dass immer mehr Kinder akut unterernährt sind. Gleichzeitig sind wichtige Gesundheits-, Ernährungs- und andere lebensrettende Dienste immer schwerer zugänglich. Derzeit leiden mehr als 30 Millionen Kinder in den fünfzehn am stärksten betroffenen Ländern an akuter Unterernährung.
"Dank der Pause waren unsere Teams vor Ort im Einsatz und sind in Gebiete vorgedrungen, die wir schon lange nicht mehr erreicht haben. Was wir sehen, ist katastrophal. Es besteht die Gefahr einer Hungersnot und dass Menschen verhungern.
"WFP ist äußerst besorgt über die sich verschlechternde Situation in Nordäthiopien, wo bereits viele Menschen mit schwerem Hunger konfrontiert sind. Unsere Teams arbeiten mit Hochdruck daran, ihnen dringend Nahrungsmittel zu liefern", sagt Chris Nikoi, Landesdirektor des WFP in Äthiopien.
