Effizient Nothilfe leisten, Leben in einer Hungersnot retten, Zero Hunger bis 2030 erreichen – das ist nur durch koordinierte Partnerschaften möglich. Humanitäre Organisationen, Regierungen oder Unternehmen aus dem Privatsektor tragen ihre einzigartige Expertise und ihr umfangreiches Wissen bei.
Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat in kürzester Zeit einen Nahrungsmitttel-Nothilfeeinsatz gestartet, mehr als 180 Mitarbeiter*innen eingesetzt und die Verteilung von Nahrungsmitteln erhöht, um 1,4 Millionen Menschen zu erreichen. Jedoch ist dies kaum die Hälfte derer, die wir erreichen sollten.
Die eindringliche Warnung des Globalen Berichts über Ernährungskrisen (Global Report on Food Crises) 2021 zeigt, dass Konflikte oder wirtschaftliche Schocks, die oft mit COVID-19 zusammenhängen, sowie extreme Wetterbedingungen weiterhin Millionen von Menschen in akute Ernährungsunsicherheit stürzen.

In den beiden nördlichen Gouvernements des Gazastreifens, wo rund 300.000 Menschen von den Kämpfen eingeschlossen sind, wird bis Mai mit einer Hungersnot gerechnet*. Der Schwellenwert für akuten Hunger wurde bereits weit überschritten, die akute Unterernährung bei Kindern unter fünf Jahren steuert in Rekordtempo auf den zweiten Schwellenwert für eine Hungersnot zu.
Die Ernennung erfolgte durch den Generalsekretär der Vereinten Nationen, António Guterres, und den Generaldirektor der Ernährungs- und Landwirtschaftsorganisation der Vereinten Nationen (FAO), QU Dongyu, nach Beratungen mit dem WFP-Exekutivrat auf einer Sondersitzung in der WFP-Zentrale in Rom.

Die Lage im Sudan ist katastrophal. Trotz der Bemühungen von WFP, das seit Ausbruch des Krieges landesweit Millionen Menschen mit Nahrungsmitteln versorgt hat, leiden derzeit fast 18 Millionen Menschen im ganzen Land unter akutem Hunger (IPC3+).
WFP hat wiederholt vor einer drohenden Hungerkatastrophe im Sudan gewarnt.
Die diesjährige Ausgabe des Berichts The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World ist die erste globale Auswertung dieser Art, während der Pandemie.
