Kabul - Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat heute bekannt gegeben, dass es in Herat 4.000 Tonnen lokal angebauten Weizen im Wert von fast 800.000 Euro aufgekauft hat. WFP kann so zum einen arme afghanische Landwirte und die lokale Agrarwirtschaft unterstützen, zum anderen die Sicherheitsprobleme beim Transport der Nahrungsmittel umgehen.
Während der Waffenruhe brachte WFP mehr als 400.000 Menschen lebensrettende Notrationen, auch in Gebieten in Aden und Sada‘a, die zuvor unzugänglich waren. Dies ist jedoch lediglich die Hälfte der 738.000 Menschen, die WFP erreichen muss.
Das ist die schlimmste Cholera-Epidemie der Welt inmitten der größten humanitären Krise der Welt. Seit April 2017 gibt es 400.000 Fälle mit Verdacht auf Cholera. Etwa 1.900 Menschen sind vermutlich schon wegen dieser Krankheit verstorben.
