„Eine der wichtigsten Kornkammern der Welt wurde vor einem Jahr in Brand gesetzt. Diese Kriegserklärung an die globale Ernährungssicherheit wirkt fort. Es ist eine anhaltende Katastrophe für die Menschen in der Ukraine und Millionen Hungernde weltweit“, sagte Dr. Martin Frick, Direktor der WFP-Büros in Berlin und Brüssel.
Nach einer massiven Ausweitung der Maßnahmen hat WFP inzwischen 330.000 Brote für Familien in der Stadt Charkiw, Bargeld für Geflüchtete in Lwiw und verzehrfertige Nahrungsmittel in verschiedenen Teilen des Landes bereitgestellt; mit zwei humanitären Konvois konnten auch die Konfliktgebiete von Sumy und Charkiw erreicht werden.
In der Ukraine ist es das Ausmaß der Dinge, das einen am meisten beeindruckt - das Ausmaß der Herausforderung, der Bedrohung, des Landes selbst.
“Wir sind jeden Monat tagelang unterwegs”, sagt Matthew Hollingworth, Landesdirektor in der Ukraine. “Und das meine ich wörtlich - tagelang auf Reisen, auf der Straße.
In den vergangenen Wochen war der Zugang zum Gazastreifen mit Ausnahme des Grenzübergangs Rafah praktisch versperrt. Die Hilfslieferungen nach Gaza haben zwar stetig zugenommen, reichen aber bei weitem nicht aus, um den exponentiell wachsenden Bedarf zu decken.
"Im Moment wissen Eltern in Gaza nicht, ob sie ihre Kinder heute ernähren können und ob sie den morgigen Tag überhaupt erleben werden.
Ermöglicht wurde die Lieferung durch das Auswärtige Amt, das die gesamten Lieferkosten in Höhe von 15 Millionen Euro übernahm. Dazu gehören die Kosten für den Transport des Weizens von der Ukraine in den Sudan sowie die Durchführung und Verteilung an Notleidende im Land.
Während der Krieg im Land in den zehnten Monat geht, explodieren die Hungerzahlen.
