Bis Mittwochmorgen hatte WFP fast 64.000 Menschen erreicht, die dringend Ernährungshilfe benötigen. Es wurden verzehrfertige Nahrungsmittelrationen, Nahrungsmittelpakete für Familien und warme Mahlzeiten bereitgestellt.
Nach den verheerenden Erdbeben an der Grenze zwischen der Türkei und Syrien, bei denen Tausende von Menschen getötet und viele weitere verletzt wurden, beobachtet WFP die Situation und steht bereit, Nothilfekapazitäten und Fachwissen einzusetzen, um der betroffenen Bevölkerung in beiden Ländern zu helfen.

Nach einem Jahrzehnt der Krise können sich erschütternde 12,4 Millionen Syrer*innen nicht ausreichend mit Nahrung versorgen – die höchste Zahl, die seit Beginn des Konflikts verzeichnet wurde.
Mit Zuwendungen in Höhe von 1,2 Milliarden Euro für die Arbeit von WFP in über 60 Ländern, ist Deutschland wieder zweitgrößter Geber für WFP und finanziell an der Hälfte der Einsätze weltweit beteiligt. Deutsche Mittel flossen auch 2023 in beide Arbeitsbereiche von WFP – humanitäre Hilfe und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit.
