Eine Analyse des WFP zeigt, dass bei einem Anstieg der globalen Durchschnittstemperatur um 2°C gegenüber dem vorindustriellen Niveau 189 Millionen Menschen zusätzlich von Hunger betroffen sein werden. Vulnerable Gemeinschaften werden weiterhin die Hauptlast der Auswirkungen tragen und nur begrenzte Mittel haben, um Klimafolgen abzufedern.
"Häufige Wirbelstürme während der Landwirtschaftssaison bedeuten Ernteverluste, hohe Nahrungsmittelpreise und bedrohen den Zugang zu Nahrung", sagte die stellvertretende WFP-Regionaldirektorin Margaret Malu.
Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat in kürzester Zeit einen Nahrungsmitttel-Nothilfeeinsatz gestartet, mehr als 180 Mitarbeiter*innen eingesetzt und die Verteilung von Nahrungsmitteln erhöht, um 1,4 Millionen Menschen zu erreichen. Jedoch ist dies kaum die Hälfte derer, die wir erreichen sollten.
Nach einem Jahrzehnt der Krise können sich erschütternde 12,4 Millionen Syrer*innen nicht ausreichend mit Nahrung versorgen – die höchste Zahl, die seit Beginn des Konflikts verzeichnet wurde.
