Eine WFP-Beobachtung der Nahrungsmittelpreise zeigt, dass diese in einigen städtischen Gebieten ansteigen. So ist der Einzelhandelspreis für Palmöl in den Stadtrandgebieten der Hauptstadt Yangon seit Anfang Februar um 20 Prozent gestiegen.
“Seit den jüngsten Angriffen in Palma, in der Provinz Cabo Delgado, haben sich die Menschen in viele verschiedene Richtungen verstreut. Die Überlebenden sind traumatisiert. Sie mussten fliehen und ihr ganzes Hab und Gut zurücklassen. Ganze Familien wurden getrennt", sagte Antonella Daprile, WFP-Landesdirektorin in Mosambik.
„Eine der wichtigsten Kornkammern der Welt wurde vor einem Jahr in Brand gesetzt. Diese Kriegserklärung an die globale Ernährungssicherheit wirkt fort. Es ist eine anhaltende Katastrophe für die Menschen in der Ukraine und Millionen Hungernde weltweit“, sagte Dr. Martin Frick, Direktor der WFP-Büros in Berlin und Brüssel.
Rom/New York/Genf - Laut einem aktuellen UN-Bericht leiden seit 2019 rund 122 Millionen mehr Menschen weltweit an Hunger. Zu den Gründen zählen die Corona-Pandemie, wiederholte Wetterschocks sowie Konflikte, einschließlich des Ukraine-Krieges.
Wenn diese Trends anhalten, wird das nachhaltige Entwicklungsziel, den Hunger bis 2030 zu beenden, nicht erreicht werden.

Im Norden des Gazastreifens droht innerhalb der nächsten sechs Wochen eine Hungersnot. Kinder sterben bereits an Hunger. Wenn eine Hungersnot ausgerufen wird, bedeutet das, dass zu viele Menschen bereits an Hunger gestorben sind.
Laut IPC-Bericht ist die Ernährungsunsicherheit in Afghanistan auf die anhaltenden Auswirkungen von COVID-19, den bewaffneten Konflikt, den sprunghaften Anstieg der Nahrungsmittelpreise, die hohe Arbeitslosigkeit und den Einkommensverlust sowie den Beginn des komplexen und wiederkehrenden Wetterereignis La Niña zurückzuführen.
