Islamabad - Die Exekutivdirektoren des Kinderhilfswerks (UNICEF) und des UN World Food Programme (WFP) haben heute nach einem Besuch im Krisengebiet die internationale Gemeinschaft dazu aufgerufen, ihre Hilfe für die Opfer der anhaltenden Überschwemmungen in Pakistan deutlich zu verstärken.
„Freerice hat gezeigt, dass ein einfacher Klick auf die Maus sehr viel ausmachen kann, um hungrigen Menschen zu helfen“, so die Direktorin der Kommunikationsabteilung des UN World Food Programme (WFP), Nancy Roman.
„Die Syrer haben im Laufe der letzten sieben Konfliktjahre unsägliches Leid erfahren. WFP arbeitet jeden Tag daran, den bedürftigsten Familien zu helfen, Nahrung auf den Tisch zu bringen. Unsere Arbeit ist die Grundlage, um Frieden zu schaffen", sagte David Beasley, WFP-Exekutivdirektor.
Extreme Klimaauswirkungen wie Dürren, Hitzewellen und Überschwemmungen sind eine der Hauptursachen für den Hunger. Sie zerstören Ernten und landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche und damit die Lebensgrundlage von ohnehin schon schutzbedürftigen Gemeinschaften.
