"Ich bin Marieke Wagenhäuser, 34 Jahre alt, und war bis vor Kurzem in Dakar, Senegal, beim Regionalbüro für Westafrika des UN-Welternährungsprogramms (WFP) beschäftigt. Zu WFP bin ich über eine sogenannte Abordnung des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) gekommen. Schon zuvor habe ich im Rahmen der BMZ-Übergangshilfe mit WFP zur Sahel-Region gearbeitet.
WFP unterstützt nationale Regierungen, die bereits mit den zusammenwirkenden Effekten von Konflikten, der Klimakrise und den steigenden Kosten für Nahrungsmittel und Treibstoffe zu kämpfen haben, den Hunger zu bekämpfen.
Die globale Bestandsaufnahme (Global Stocktake), der erste Bericht über das Pariser Abkommen, hat gezeigt, dass die Welt gefährlich nahe daran ist, die kritische Grenze von 1,5 Grad Celsius für die globale Erwärmung dauerhaft zu überschreiten.
Konflikte, Wirtschaftskrisen, Klimaextreme und steigende Preise für Düngemittel führen zu einer historischen Hungerkrise. Bis zu 783 Millionen Menschen wissen nicht, woher ihre nächste Mahlzeit kommt.
Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat eine lange Geschichte innovativer Partnerschaften mit dem Privatsektor, die sich aus technischer Zusammenarbeit, Wissenstransfer und finanzieller Unterstützung zusammensetzt.
