"Ich bin Marieke Wagenhäuser, 34 Jahre alt, und war bis vor Kurzem in Dakar, Senegal, beim Regionalbüro für Westafrika des UN-Welternährungsprogramms (WFP) beschäftigt. Zu WFP bin ich über eine sogenannte Abordnung des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) gekommen. Schon zuvor habe ich im Rahmen der BMZ-Übergangshilfe mit WFP zur Sahel-Region gearbeitet.
Jedes Jahr unterstützt das Welternährungsprogramm der Vereinten Nationen (WFP) Programme, die fast 200.000 Hektar Land auf der ganzen Welt wieder fruchtbar machen – eine Fläche mehr als doppelt so groß wie die Stadt New York.
Heute, in einer Zeit beispiellosen Hungers, sind 33 Prozent der weltweiten Böden zerstört.
