Rom, 29. April 2007 – Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat in Äthiopien, Sudan und Tschad große Fortschritte dabei gemacht, die Mangelernährung zu reduzieren. Die sehr instabilen Sicherheitsbedingungen gefährden jedoch die erreichten Erfolge, sagte WFP-Exekutivdirektorin Josette Sheeran.
Die Bestätigung des Famine Review Committee (FRC) einer Hungersnot im Zamzam Vertriebenencamp ist die erste Feststellung einer Hungersnot durch das FRC seit mehr als sieben Jahren und erst das dritte Mal, dass eine Hungersnot festgestellt wurde, seit das System vor 20 Jahren eingerichtet wurde.
Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) wird von einem Exekutivrat geführt, der aus 36 Mitgliedstaaten besteht, WFP in der Strategiefindung unterstützt und WFP-Programme kontrolliert.
