Rom, den 16. Dezember 2008 - Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat heute dazu aufgerufen, für den Kampf gegen den Hunger einen Bruchteil der Summen bereit zu stellen, die derzeit als Rettungspakete für die Finanzmärkte vorgeschlagen werden.
Die Bevölkerung von Mali hat bereits mit den Auswirkungen anhaltender Konflikte, politischer Instabilität und den sozioökonomischen Folgen von COVID-19 zu kämpfen.
Die meisten Menschen, die WFP und Partner in diesen Gebieten erreichten, hatten seit April keine humanitäre Hilfe mehr erhalten, obwohl WFP und andere UN-Organisationen mehrfach versucht hatten, einen Zugang zu diesen Menschen zu schaffen.
In der Ukraine ist es das Ausmaß der Dinge, das einen am meisten beeindruckt - das Ausmaß der Herausforderung, der Bedrohung, des Landes selbst.
“Wir sind jeden Monat tagelang unterwegs”, sagt Matthew Hollingworth, Landesdirektor in der Ukraine. “Und das meine ich wörtlich - tagelang auf Reisen, auf der Straße.
Zum ersten Mal sind 45.000 Menschen in der Sahelzone von katastrophalem Hunger (Phase 5 Hungersnot) - bedroht - darunter 42.000 in Burkina Faso und 2.500 in Mali.
Die kombinierten Auswirkungen von Konflikten, Klimaschocks, COVID-19 und hohen Lebensmittelpreisen treiben den Hunger und die Mangelernährung in der Region weiter in die Höhe.
