In der Region Amhara – wo die Frontlinien des Konflikts in Äthiopien verlaufen - ist die Zahl der Menschen, die dringend humanitäre Hilfe benötigen, mit 3,7 Millionen am stärksten angestiegen. Von den hilfsbedürftigen Menschen in Nordäthiopien befinden sich mehr als 80 Prozent (7,8 Millionen) hinter den Frontlinien.
Der Friedensnobelpreis würdigt das UN-Welternährungsprogramm „für seinen Einsatz im Kampf gegen den Hunger, seinen Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Bedingungen für Frieden in Konfliktregionen und seine Rolle als treibende Kraft bei der Verhinderung des Einsatzes von Hunger als Waffe in Krieg und Konflikt.“
Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat eine lange Geschichte innovativer Partnerschaften mit dem Privatsektor, die sich aus technischer Zusammenarbeit, Wissenstransfer und finanzieller Unterstützung zusammensetzt.
Das Team des Welternährungsprogramms der Vereinten Nationen (WFP) ist vor Ort und wir sind bereit, bei Bedarf zu helfen, sofern der Zugang gewährt wird und Ressourcen zur Verfügung stehen.
Erhebliche Mittelkürzungen im östlichen und südlichen Afrika sowie im Nahen Osten haben dazu geführt, dass für einige der gefährdetsten Menschen der Welt, die zum Überleben auf die Nahrungsmittel des WFP angewiesen sind, Rationen gekürzt werden mussten. Allein in Ostafrika wurden die Rationen für fast drei Viertel der Flüchtlinge um bis zu 60 Prozent gekürzt.
Ute Klamert ist seit Februar 2019 beigeordnete Exekutivdirektorin für Partnerschaften und Advocacy. In dieser Funktion leitet Frau Klamert sämtliche Aktivitäten von WFP im Bereich Mobilisierung von Ressourcen sowie Partnerschaften mit Regierungen, UN-Organisationen, dem Privatsektor und anderen Partnern.
