Die erweiterte Hilfe, die WFP und humanitäre Partner für die von den Überschwemmungen betroffenen Familien bereitstellen, umfasst Ernährungshilfe, Vorbeugung gegen Unterernährung und Unterstützung bei der Sicherung des Lebensunterhalts. WFP leistet außerdem logistische Unterstützung für den Hilfseinsatz.
11. September 2018, Rom – Die Zahl der Hungernden steigt weiter an. Das bestätigt der heute veröffentliche UN-Bericht „The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018“. Demzufolge litten 2017 weltweit 821 Millionen Menschen Hunger – das ist jeder Neunte.
Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) hat eine lange Geschichte innovativer Partnerschaften mit dem Privatsektor, die sich aus technischer Zusammenarbeit, Wissenstransfer und finanzieller Unterstützung zusammensetzt.
"Wir haben bereits unsere Häuser in Khartum verloren und mussten mit ansehen, wie unser Leben vor unseren Augen zerstört wurde. Nun müssen wir erneut fliehen und das Wenige, das uns geblieben ist, zurückzulassen. Hunderttausende fliehen zu Fuß und können nirgendwo hin.
"Das Risiko einer Hungersnot im Land ist so hoch wie seit einem Vierteljahrhundert nicht mehr, und die Ernährungshilfe des WFP ist der letzte Rettungsanker für Millionen Afghanen", sagte Hsiao-Wei Lee, WFP-Landesdirektorin in Afghanistan.
Mit der Verschärfung des Konflikts wird es für die Zivilbevölkerung, einschließlich gefährdeter Kinder und Familien, immer schwieriger, Zugang zu lebenswichtigen Nahrungsmitteln zu erhalten.
Insgesamt 30.000 Familien, rund 150.000 Menschen, in 11 Upazilas mit fünf Bezirken—Khulna, Satkhira, Barguna, Patuakhali und Bhola — haben am Montag jeweils 43 US-Dollar (BDT 5.000) erhalten.
