Die Bestätigung des Famine Review Committee (FRC) einer Hungersnot im Zamzam Vertriebenencamp ist die erste Feststellung einer Hungersnot durch das FRC seit mehr als sieben Jahren und erst das dritte Mal, dass eine Hungersnot festgestellt wurde, seit das System vor 20 Jahren eingerichtet wurde.
Niger ist weiterhin in einer chronischen Krise gefangen, die hauptsächlich durch Armut, regionale Unsicherheit, demografischen Druck, ökonomischen und klimabedingten Schocks, chronischen Hunger und anhaltende Geschlechterungerechtigkeit verursacht wird.
Das Welternährungsprogramm der Vereinten Nationen (WFP) hat die erste Lieferung von Ernährungshilfe nach Libyen geschickt. Dort haben Tausende Menschen infolge der verheerenden Überschwemmungen ihr Leben verloren. Mehr als 10.000 Menschen sind verletzt oder werden vermisst.
In den nächsten Tagen plant WFP mehr als 5.000 Familien zu erreichen.
Rom/New York – Die Zahl der Menschen, die weltweit von Hunger betroffen sind, stieg auf bis zu 828 Millionen im Jahr 2021. Laut einem Bericht der Vereinten Nationen, ist das ein Anstieg von 46 Millionen seit 2020 und von 150 Millionen seit dem Beginn der COVID-19 Pandemie (1).
Rom, 10. April 2007 – Bei ihrem heutigen Treffen mit Mitarbeitern in der Zentrale des UN World Food Programme (WFP) in Rom, fordert die neue Exekutivdirektorin Josette Sheeran ein erneutes Engagement für die Armen und Hungrigen der Welt.
„Seit Beginn dieser Pandemie hat WFP führende Politikerinnen und Politiker in der ganzen Welt dazu aufgerufen, zu handeln und viele sind diesem Ruf nachgekommen – darunter auch Mitglieder der Arabischen Liga“, sagte Beasley bei der Eröffnungssitzung der 106. Ministertagung des Wirtschafts- und Sozialrats (ECOSOC) der Liga der Arabischen Staaten (LAS).
Konflikte, Wirtschaftskrisen, Klimaextreme und steigende Preise für Düngemittel führen zu einer historischen Hungerkrise. Bis zu 783 Millionen Menschen wissen nicht, woher ihre nächste Mahlzeit kommt.
