Eine Analyse des WFP zeigt, dass bei einem Anstieg der globalen Durchschnittstemperatur um 2°C gegenüber dem vorindustriellen Niveau 189 Millionen Menschen zusätzlich von Hunger betroffen sein werden. Vulnerable Gemeinschaften werden weiterhin die Hauptlast der Auswirkungen tragen und nur begrenzte Mittel haben, um Klimafolgen abzufedern.

Im Norden des Gazastreifens droht innerhalb der nächsten sechs Wochen eine Hungersnot. Kinder sterben bereits an Hunger. Wenn eine Hungersnot ausgerufen wird, bedeutet das, dass zu viele Menschen bereits an Hunger gestorben sind.

In der Demokratischen Republik Kongo (DRK) verschärfen sich Konflikt und Hunger gegenseitig. Unsicherheit, die sich über mehrere Provinzen erstreckt, ist die Hauptursache für die Vertreibung der Bevölkerung. Dies führt häufig zu Hunger, der in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo weiter wächst: 27 Millionen Menschen sind von akutem Hunger betroffen.
"Die Auswirkungen dieses Konflikts erstrecken sich über drei Länder - Sudan, Südsudan und Tschad - und haben die größte Vertreibungskrise der Welt ausgelöst. Seit fast einem Jahr dauert der Krieg an, und es gibt keine Anzeichen dafür, dass die Zahl der Familien, die über die Grenzen fliehen, abnimmt.
Mit der Verschärfung des Konflikts wird es für die Zivilbevölkerung, einschließlich gefährdeter Kinder und Familien, immer schwieriger, Zugang zu lebenswichtigen Nahrungsmitteln zu erhalten.
Liechtenstein ist seit vielen Jahren ein verlässlicher Partner des UN World Food Programme (WFP). Nach Klimakatastrophen zählt das Land oft zu den Gebern, die am schnellsten Hilfe bereitstellen. Gleichzeitig leistet Liechtenstein kontinuierlich wichtige Unterstützung für vergessene und unterfinanzierte Krisen.
