Das ist die schlimmste Cholera-Epidemie der Welt inmitten der größten humanitären Krise der Welt. Seit April 2017 gibt es 400.000 Fälle mit Verdacht auf Cholera. Etwa 1.900 Menschen sind vermutlich schon wegen dieser Krankheit verstorben.

Jerusalem, 20. Juni 2007 - Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) weitet seine akute humanitäre Hilfe für die Menschen im Gaza-Streifen aus. WFP hat angekündigt, dass heute neun LKWs mit insgesamt 225 Tonnen Nahrung die Grenze zum Gaza-Streifen überqueren werden. Insgesamt hängen derzeit rund 80 Prozent der Bevölkerung im Gaza-Streifen von Nahrungsmittelhilfe ab.
Dort, wo in lokalen Geschäften weiterhin Nahrungsmittel vorhanden sind, erhalten die Menschen Nahrungsmittelgutscheine von WFP. Diese sind angesichts geschlossener Banken und unsicherer Einkommen eine innovative Hilfe.
„Familien in von Gewalt betroffenen Regionen haben mehr und mehr Probleme, sich zu ernähren. WFP ist zutiefst über diese Ernährungslage besorgt“, sagt Ertharin Cousin, Exekutivdirektorin des WFP.
Fortschritte aber langsam und unzureichendMehr als zwei Wochen nach dem Wirbelsturm Nargis macht das UN World Food Programme (WFP) Fortschritte dabei, die Opfer zu erreichen. Diese Fortschritte sind jedoch langsam und unzureichend. Bis zum heutigen Tag hat WFP genügend Nahrungsmittel in den betroffenen Gebieten verteilt, um 250.000 Menschen zu ernähren.
