Die Bestätigung des Famine Review Committee (FRC) einer Hungersnot im Zamzam Vertriebenencamp ist die erste Feststellung einer Hungersnot durch das FRC seit mehr als sieben Jahren und erst das dritte Mal, dass eine Hungersnot festgestellt wurde, seit das System vor 20 Jahren eingerichtet wurde.
Mit der Verschärfung des Konflikts wird es für die Zivilbevölkerung, einschließlich gefährdeter Kinder und Familien, immer schwieriger, Zugang zu lebenswichtigen Nahrungsmitteln zu erhalten.
Ab August werden die syrischen Flüchtlinge in den Camps eine reduzierte monatliche Bargeldhilfe in Höhe von 21 USD (15 JOD) pro Person erhalten. Der bisherige Betrag lag bei 32 USD (23 JOD). In beiden Camps haben syrische Flüchtlinge nur begrenzte Einkommensmöglichkeiten. Nur 30 Prozent der Erwachsenen arbeiten, hauptsächlich in befristeten oder saisonalen Beschäftigungen.
Die Sicherheitslage ist nach wie vor äußerst prekär. WFP prüft Standorte, an denen der Zugang für humanitäre Hilfe gewährleistet ist, wobei Sicherheits-, Kapazitäts- und Zugangsüberlegungen eine wichtige Rolle spielen.
