Die Sicherheitslage in und rund um Port-au-Prince hat sich seit Anfang Mai drastisch verschlechtert. Landesweite Lieferketten, der Zugang zu grundlegenden Dienstleistungen wie Märkten, Schulen und Krankenhäusern und Lebensgrundlagen der Haitianer*innen im ganzen Land sind beeinträchtigt.
Mit finanzieller Unterstützung der Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) und des deutschen Auswärtigen Amts erhielten 6.000 bedürftige Haushalte (etwa 30.000 Menschen), die im Überschwemmungsgebiet leben, über das mobile Transfersystem bKash Tk4,500 (53 US-Dollar) pro Haushalt, um ihnen bei der Vorbereitung auf die drohende Katastrophe zu helfen.
ROM – Einem neuen Frühwarnbericht der Vereinten Nationen zufolge könnte akuter Hunger in 18 "Hotspots" mit insgesamt 22 Ländern an Ausmaß und Schwere zunehmen. Der Bericht weist auf die Gefahr eines Übergreifens der Sudankrise hin, wodurch sich das Risiko negativer Auswirkungen auf die Nachbarländer erhöht.
Konflikte, Wirtschaftskrisen, Klimaextreme und steigende Preise für Düngemittel führen zu einer historischen Hungerkrise. Bis zu 783 Millionen Menschen wissen nicht, woher ihre nächste Mahlzeit kommt.
Seit dem 15. August hat WFP fast 300.000 Menschen in Amhara und Afar mit Nahrungsmitteln erreicht. Die zweite Runde der Nahrungsmittelverteilung in Tigray läuft seit dem 27.
In diesem Monat begann WFP Ernährungsnothilfe in Gemeinden der an das Konfliktgebiet Tigray angrenzenden Regionen bereitzustellen. In Abstimmung mit den äthiopischen Bundes- und Regionalbehörden plant WFP, unmittelbar 530.000 Menschen in Afar und 250.000 Menschen in Amhara zu erreichen.
Nairobi, 14. August 2007 – Das UN World Food Programme (WFP) und das UN-Flüchtlingskommissariat (UNHCR) haben heute die internationale Gemeinschaft aufgerufen dabei zu helfen, 149.000 burundischen Flüchtlingen die Heimreise zu ermöglichen. Nahrungsmittelpakete sollen den Flüchtlingen in Tansania helfen, in ihre Heimat zurückzureisen.
